Before
After
Dear Friends,
My before and after story is not one of a dramatic physical change but rather one of getting back to where I should be. I have been an elite athlete performing at a high level since I was five years old. I grew up in a very athletic family and that’s what we do. My story is about overcoming complacency. At the time, I was in a rut due to the fact that I had just recently finished going through nine months of physical therapy to strengthen and rebuild my reconstructed knee. I lacked inspiration to do anything. I wasn’t playing for the Fresno State Bulldogs football team anymore, and nothing seemed to compare to the rush I felt being on the field on game day! So at that time in my life everything seemed like a very monotonous, boring routine.
I was just starting out as a personal trainer and although I was helping women make dramatic changes to their physiques, I was having a hard time convincing men that I could help them get in great shape. The shape I was in at the time was much less than optimal and most guys only want a trainer who is at the top of their game.
In order to force myself out of my rut and help convince other men that I could help them become fit as well, I decided to begin training myself so I would look and feel the way I had grown accustomed to during all those years of being a successful athlete. To accomplish this, I entered a bodybuilding competition giving myself a specific date to achieve my goal. My goal was to get in great physical condition to show that I can transform a man’s body…and come home with a trophy to prove it!
I was not expecting to do very well since it was my first competition, I was going to do all the contest preparation myself, and it was the first time I would take my conditioning to the extremes that is required to place in a bodybuilding competition. That, coupled with the fact that I was entering one of the hardest competitions in California, and experienced competitors were saying I was crazy for entering that show as my first and to be happy if I placed fifth (trophy’s are only awarded to first through fifth place) made me second guess myself somewhat. However, I knew I would at least place in the top five. I have never been out of the running in anything, ever!
Needless to say I did much better than anyone, including myself expected, placing first in my class, second overall and having the privilege of being asked to do a photo shoot on Venice Beach the next day with one of the pictures being featured in FLEX magazine on page 38 in the July 2004 issue. I was back!
To make a long story short I pulled myself out of my rut and proved that I can help anyone male, female, and even myself get out of a rut and reach their fitness goals. I encourage anyone who wants to dramatically change their life to contact me, enter a bodybuilding, fitness, or figure competition, and get started now! Make the decision and go. Do not wait! You will learn a lot about yourself in the process and if you are honest, and train as hard as you can, the results will be nothing less than rewarding!
Sincerely,
Malcolm Tears II
